In January and February the weather was so hot I stayed indoors with my piano to work on new repertoire for two pianos which I will be playing with choral conductor and pianist Margaret Pride.
So far the works include:-
Arensky: Suite opus 15
Litoff: Scherzo from “Concerto Symphonique”No. 4
Rachmaninov: Prelude in C# minor arranged by the composer 1938
Tchaikovsky: “The Nutcracker Suite”
My husband Victor and I leave soon to celebrate his 80th birthday with our children and grandchildren in London. Our musical treats will be a cruise on the Rhine and the summer festival at Cerne Abbas in Dorset staying with old friends Lord and Lady Digby. She ran the Dorset Summer Music Festival for 50 years. Andras Schiff gave the final recital
Our grandson Oscar Garland who last year played Enjolras the young revolutionary in “Les Miserables” and Eva, singing and dancing in “Hairspray” now has the name part in “SweeneyTodd” the Sondheim musical, as the demon barber in another Musical Youth UK production which we want to see.
Back to wintery Perth in July to my piano who had been sulking at my longer than usual absence. Back to the twopiano repertoire, a recital programme of “Chopin and Friends” for the Karrakatta Club on September 9, more ensemble playing and on October 12 I took part in the Beethoven Sonata Marathon at Government House Ballroom, playing the Sonata Op. 49 No 2.
The Marathon was a huge success; some of the audience stayed for all seven sessions 9.00am to 10.30pm, attentive and appreciative throughout. Mark Coughlan was cheered at the end for organising a perfect musical day.
